Tikanga for online Zuis
Pre-block course set up and suggestions
You can download the Zoom Desktop Client for Mac, Windows, Linux, and ChromeOS, as well as the Zoom Mobile App for iOS and Android, from the Zoom Downloads page.
Sign up for free—click here. Suggestion: When creating a Zoom account, use your actual name during the registration process. This name is used as a default for every Zoom meeting.
You can join a test Zoom meeting to familiarize yourself with the Zoom and test your microphone/speakers before joining a Zoom meeting. Visit zoom.us/test and click Join.
The easiest way is to click the join link that the meeting host provided. You can also click Join in your Zoom client and enter the meeting ID. You may also be prompted for a meeting passcode, so keep the meeting invite information available. Here’s a quick video walk through of the process.
Find a quiet space and spend some time beforehand to set it up for a virtual session. You may want to:
-
-
-
-
- find a place preferably by the window or space with good lighting
-
-
-
-
- arrange your screen and camera height (at eye level or slightly below)

Protocols for the Zuis during the Contact Workshop
-
- Join the Zuis early—at least 5 minutes before time to test your connection and setup and to give yourself time to settle.
-
- Ensure that you have changed/updated your name if needed on Zoom. We suggest that you use your first and last name when joining the Zuis.
-
- If the space you are in permits and you have a good internet connection, please turn on your camera/video.
Videos allow others to connect with you and help create a positive learning space.
If you need to attend to something that requires urgent attention, you can turn the camera off at any time.
-
-
a picture from your region
-
your cluster group logo/image
-
any picture that holds value for you and you are comfortable sharing it with others
-
Alternatively, you can choose a clear background or turn on the blur effect on Zoom
-
- Ensure that your mic is muted at all times unless you are talking or have been asked to engage in a kōrero.
Suggestion: Always mute your mic as soon as you enter a Zui. You can change your Zoom setting to set this as a default when entering a meeting.
-
- Avoid talking over other people. If you have a question to ask or would like to make a comment either raise your hand or use the chat function.
